The 2015 IWPA Silver Feather Award goes to Teresa (Terrie) Albano co-editor of peoplesworld.org.

Terrie has been with the publication since 2000, acting in various capacities including columnist, social media coordinator, and its first woman editor-in-chief. People’s World traces its roots to the Daily Worker, the first edition of which rolled off the press in 1924.

A grassroots labor and political activist for more than 30 years, Terrie has written and spoken on politics, race, unions, education, international affairs and Marxist theory. She is a member of the Chicago News Guild and has covered stories both internationally and domestically, including the 2008 and 2012 Barack Obama presidential campaigns.

A lifelong Chicagoan, Terrie moved to New York City and worked as a youth and community organizer from the late 80s through the 90s, where she married activist and organizer John Bachtell. They have two children, Aidan and Winona. After moving back to her hometown in 2001,

Terrie helped establish People’s World editorial office in Chicago.

Terrie is working towards her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an English major at Northeastern Illinois University and swims competitively with U.S. Masters Swimming team, Swedish Fish.
