Lolita Ditzler’s memoir, The View from a Midwest Ferris Wheel, is the story of her seven-year courtship during the 1950s. It began when a bold, sixteen-year-old Kenny Ditzler asked the fourteen-year-old girl to go on the carnival ride. Their relationship endured while he served a four-year enlistment in the U.S. Navy and she had a serious bout with tuberculosis that required a five-month confinement in a sanitarium. Her home was a northern Illinois family dairy farm where life flowed around the morning and evening milking of the cows.
