Join Illinois Woman’s Press Association for a LIVE EVENT featuring educational programming, creativity, fun and fellowship.

The event will feature four expert speakers on an array of professional topics, with Q&A following each session. The presentations will be followed by readings of published or in-progress work from four attendees, in 5-minute increments. Interested readers are invited to register via this form on a first come, first served basis

Our speakers for the afternoon:

Carrie Steinweg – Freelance 101 – Carrie will discuss what is involved in being a freelance writer, how to get work, and insights to trade. She will also discuss her personal experience.

Joshua Friedberg – Transitioning Writing from High School to College – Josh will cover his own journey with this topic, addressing assignments, going beyond 5-paragraph essays, argumentative vs. informative writing, close reading, essay structure, using research databases, receiving feedback, and using outlines.

Janice Newman – Social Media – Janice will speak on the importance of utilizing social media with your writing. She will give examples of how to increase your social following, and create a brand.

Janis Johnston – Blog Writing and Book Publishing – Janis will discuss basic blog writing 101, and the ins and outs of working with a professional book publisher.

The event is completely free and registration is not required, unless you’d like to read your work. A table will be provided for attendees to display their books or other professional collateral.

Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Parking and entry to the library are located in the back of the building.

We look forward to seeing you in person!
