Want to know how these authors got published? Attend the 6th annual book fair to hear panelists share their publishing secrets. Autographed copies of their books will be available for purchase. Cost (includes lunch) for IWPA/CWIP members and their guests is $25; other nonmembers $40. Cash or check may be made at door. HUGH HOLTON
Hugh Holton is no stranger to the dark side of human nature. A police
officer for over 30 years and a Vietnam veteran, Lt. Holton is a watch commander in
Chicagos Wentworth district, one of the most dangerous districts in Chicago. He uses
his years of police experience to create realistic portrayals of violent crime and the
fighters who wage war against it.
His first six novels, Presumed Dead (Forge 1994), Windy City (Forge 1995), Chicago Blues (Forge 1996), Violent Crimes (Forge 1997), Red Lightning (Forge 1998), and The Left Hand of God (Forge 1999) which won the Love is Murder Readers Choice Award for Best Police Procedural, have all been critically acclaimed, and Windy City spent 12 weeks on The Chicago Tribune bestseller list. In his most recent novel, Time of the Assassins (Forge; February 2000), Holton has Commander Cole facing his biggest challenge yet.
Lt. Holton, who is a past president of the Midwest Chapter of the Mystery Writers of America, has a Masters Degree in History from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and was recently named Author of the Year 99 for the Second Annual Black History Month Book Fair and Conference.
KATHY MCDONALD
Kathy McDonald co-authored Creating Your Life Collage:
Strategies for Solving the Work/Life Dilemma, published by Random House. Creating
Your Life Collage offers readers inspiration and guidance to reclaim their lives from
all-consuming work by sharing success stories and practical tips of nearly 1,000 women.
Kathy is also a speaker and workshop leader on work/life issues. Prior to her latest
venture, Kathy leveraged her 8 years experience in corporate finance and marketing working
for Fortune 50 companies to successfully launch and grow two businesses. Kathy obtained
her MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Kathy is a wife and parent, an avid gardener, dog owner, painter, good friend, active family member, and lover of books and the arts. Kathy and her husband John reside near Chicago, where they enjoy time with their two children. Kathys philosophy for living and working: "Live with intention."
Patricia Rosemoor
Patricia Rosemoor used various pseudonyms for
a half-dozen publishers since winning the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart for Best
Young Adult Novel. Her sixty books include contemporary, historical and paranormal
romances. Her first love is romantic suspense, and shes best known as Patricia
Rosemoor, bestselling author for Harlequin Intrigue; winner of the Romantic Times Career
Achievement and Reviewers Choice Awards. Her most recent books were a trilogy of
Intrigues, Sons of Silver Springs: Heart of a Lawman, The Lone Wolfs Child and
A Ranchers Vow.
Patricia also writes screenplays. The Last Dance, a suspense-thriller, was a semi-finalist in the Motion Picture Academys Nicholl Fellowship competition and was optioned by a Los Angeles production company.
Holding a masters degree in television production, she is adjunct faculty at Columbia College in Chicago and has taught for the Fiction Writing, Film/Video and the Continuing Education Departments.
This Spring, she will be offering two new courses back-to-back for C.E.:Writing the Romance Novel starting -appropriately- February 14, Valentines Day; and Genre Writing Workshop, starting April 11.
Shes a member of Romance Writers of America, Novelists Inc., Sisters in Crime, Kiss of Death, Chicago Screenwriters Connection and Webgrrls. She volunteers at Lincoln Park Zoo.
Judy Veramendi
Born in Chicago, Judy Veramendi has lived for extended periods
of time in South America and Spain. Her latest foreign residence was as a Senior Fulbright
Scholar in Montevideo, Uruguay, from April-June 2000. There she researched Latin American
women writers, and completed a play based on the life of Delmira Agustini, which garnered
a staged reading.
The most recent of her over twenty published books is the upcoming book, Latin American Legends: the African Heritage (McGraw-Hill, 2001). She has written and published over 50 stories for children in both Spanish and English. Among her publishers have been the BBC, Scott Foresman, and Pearson Publishing. She has taught all levels of Spanish to students of all ages. For the last two years, she has been a lecturer at Northwestern University.
