Are newspapers "shaking in their boots?" All kinds of free news and information are now available on the Internet, including personalized news services. Or are smart publications using it to their advantage? Many are creating their own Web newspapers and extending their readership. Writers are able to research for stories and access corporate news releases 24 hours a day. Advertising is also changing, with banner ads being sold on most Web sites.
IWPAs September 19 workshop leader Ron Solberg says for communicators, knowing where the pack is going is just as important as staying ahead of the pack. He will address recent trends in news, public relations, and marketing on the Internet and demonstrate some useful Web sites and search engines.
Solberg is president of EasyCom, Inc., in Downers Grove, which specializes in consulting and educating firms on using the Internet and the Web. In 1984, he created the first worldwide electronic forum for communicators, which now has 20,000 members on CompuServe. He is past president of the Chicago chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, has been elected to PRSAs College of Fellows, and won the Greater OHare PRSA chapters "Top Gun" award for his lifetime contributions to technology in PR. He is also a member of the Association Forum of Chicagoland and a frequent speaker.
Please allow time to stay after Solbergs presentation and try "surfing" the Web, including the debut of IWPAs own Web site.
