The story of the National Federation of Press Women began more than 77 years ago when Helen Miller Malloch, then president of the Illinois Woman’s Press Association had a vision for a national organization of newspaper women and writers at the same time IWPA was interested in getting copyright legislation through Congress. In 1935, with her vision and infallible instinct of true leadership, Malloch “thought there should be an organization of professional women, believing there is strength in numbers. She saw the advantages of unification and envisioned opportunities for members both socially and professionally.

The remarkable women who have led the federation since that first meeting in May 1937 deserve to take their place in history.
