Reinvention Leads to Creative Restoration
by Marianne Wolf-

Reinvention is a hopeful word.
IWPA has shown its spotlight on
this subject during the past year
with special speakers, and by
focusing on this theme for the
highly popular 2010 NFPW national
conference hosted in Chicago.
The topic, to create a new
version of something or someone,
conjures up promises of
rejuvenation, renewal, refreshment
and can be found in contemporary
articles expressing he
success of reinventing everything
from potluck meals to countertops,
personal careers to Chicago
government. More than a few
IWPA members have taken their
own personal career path to
reinvention. Few though, have
captured the spirit and self of so

purchase the old Carnegie
Library located in Gilman in
2006 (pictured left). Mr.
Scheber spent the next 3 years
renovating the building and bringing
the structure up to current
requirements for public use. In
August of 2010, Scheber opened
the Library as the Carnegie
Library Children’s Storybook
Research Center.

Seeking to establish a well designed
and sustainable program
held at the Library, Scheber
invited faculty members and
students from Aurora University
College of Education to participate
in the first round of workshops
he organized at the Library
