A lifelong educator, Brown has written and produced
award winning publications, grants, curricula, and marketing
materials. Her spoken word can be found in numerous
audio books and broadcast news voiceovers, and alongside
symphony orchestras. She is the owner of Lana Brown
Communications, a speaking and writing consulting firm, which
has serviced AT&T, Kraft, the National Education Association,
the Museum of Broadcast Communications, among others.
She has taught at secondary and collegiate levels and
is currently an adjunct professor for Vanderbilt University and
coordinator of Michigan State University College of Education’s
internship program with Chicago Public Schools.
IWPA honored 36 members for their 110 winning
entries at its May 15, 2009, Awards Luncheon at the Union
League Club in Chicago. This competition recognizes
excellence in communications and covers a wide range of
categories in print and electronic media, books, photography,
advertising, and public relations.

IWPA Searching for Youth Chair
The board of IWPA is accepting applications to fill
the position of Youth Chair. If you possess the following
characteristics this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved
with high school communicators and hopefully, future
members of IWPA!
The candidate should have administrator skills with
knowledge of mail merge, Excel spreadsheet, be willing to stuff
and mail envelopes, (or delegate), compose and send emails to
judges, teachers and students; be detail oriented and organized,
keep a calendar of deadlines, and follow through on them.
Ideally, this person has an interest in the future of journalism
and great enthusiasm for young people, high school
students, developing in that field and carrying it forward into the
future. Someone with good communication skills. Willingness
to work closely with IWPA board and NFPW for the annual
communication contest on the state and national level. The
position is a two-year commitment. Must be a member of
IWPA in good standing. Rewards for working with, acting as a
mentor and greatly infl uencing the next generation - priceless!
