Continued from page one

covers home and building design, fashion, education and healthcare, yet she also has an interest in travel and “things that are pretty and nice,” she notes on her Linked In page.

McKuen writes for the Chicago Tribune as well as consumer magazines, trade and alumni pubs, and corporate communications departments across the country. Her column, “Community Living,” appears in the Chicago Homes section of the Chicago Tribune.

“Every week is different,” she notes. “This week I’m working on a column about collection policies for homeowner associations for the Chicago Tribune; a profi le of a young architect who is designing innovative buildings in China for Chicago Architect magazine; a profile of an Elmhurst College philanthropist for Prospect magazine.”

Since 1995, she has been an adjunct instructor in the Journalism Department at Columbia College Chicago, the country’s largest arts and media college. This past January, she co-led a 10-day work/study trip to Paris for 24 journalism students.

Besides NFPW, she has received awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors, Community Associations Institute, and Writers Digest.

Bonnie McGrath is an award-winning journalist and Chicago attorney who teaches legal journalism at Columbia College.

In the past, McGrath has been a columnist for the Chicago Tribune and a contributing writer for the Chicago Reader. Networking is hot!

On a cold blustery, snowy morning in Chicago in February, IWPA threw open the doors to those who wanted to warm their hands and hearts around the “IWPA Wisdom Roundtable” to share life lessons and offer support to our members going through career transitions. A free event with a “heart” theme in a member’s condo, everyone shared homebaked snacks and their stories.

This event was so popular that IWPA has planned small networking groups to supplement remaining professional development meetings. The fi rst was March 19 at the famous journalists’ hang-out, Billy Goat Tavern. Another is being planned for the west and NW suburbs. Contact Cecilia Green if you want to come. 312.242.6031 or cgreen@turnaround.org.
