button Oct. 28, 2008 -- Marianne Wolf will be Featured Author at TallGrass Writers Guild's October 28 Open Mic. Marianne has won numerous awards for her fiction and creative nonfiction, and will provide a sampling of her work at 7:30 pm. Following her appearance is the regularly scheduled Open Mic, where everyone is welcome to present up to 10 minutes of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, music, comedy and more. button Oct. 12, 2008 -- Is Marlys Styne's birthday. Here’s a HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to you Marlys.
Many of you were present to hear Marlys’ excellent contribution during the Sept. 27th IWPA event. What you might not be aware of is the fact Marlys had double knee replacement surgery on Monday, October 6th .
Thanks to each of you who emailed, called, visited or sent her a note before her double knee replacement surgery. We are sure it lifted her spirits knowing her friends at IWPA cared about her.
We're all wishing a very speedy recovery to a very delightful and lovely lady, Marlys Styne.

button Oct. 8, 2008 -- Tracy Ahrens has a new book, now out in major bookstores and online at www.bbotw.com. The name is “Giant Hero: One couple’s journey through loving and letting go of a son with Potter’s Syndrome.” It took 2 years and it was written for a couple who lost their son Titus to Potter’s Syndrome, a little known condition when a baby is born without kidneys.  You can contact Tracy at mylittleforie@yahoo.com

button Sept. 1, 2008 -- Lana Brown receives full year faculty appointment to Vanderbilt University  as adjunct professor of Internship and Senior Seminar courses, plus she has also accepted a full time administrative appointment with Michigan State University where Lana will be their LIAISON for their  Internship Program with Chicago Public Schools.

button Aug. 4, 2008 -- Susan Brauer accepts appointment to the position of technology dean at the DeVry University Chicago campus. Among her responsibilities will be oversight of the engineering, computer and electronics degree programs.

button May 17, 2008 -- The Illinois Woman's Press Association, an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), honored Marianne Wolf-Astrauskas as its 2008 Communicator of Achievement at its May 17 Awards Luncheon at the Union League Club in Chicago.

button May 17, 2008 -- Mary T. Wagner, assistant district attorney for Sheboygan County, WI, won the distinguished Silver Feather Award for achieving the highest number of points among all the entrants. She received three 1st place awards, two 2nd place, two 3rd place, and one honorable mention for her entries in the editorial/opinion, web writing, and photography categories. Wagner's recently published book, Running with Stilettos, is a collection of entries from her blog, Running with Stilettos-Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes (www.runningwithstilettos.com).
