button Monday, November 25, 2009. - East Lansing, Mich. - Lana Weiss Brown of Bourbonnais, IL., has received the prestigious Crystal Apple Award from Michigan State University's College of Education.

Wagner (Running with Stilettos) and ); Rachel Madorsky (Symphony of Your Karma and Create Your Own Destiny); will be among nine Chicago authors sharing their stories at “Meet the Authors Day” at the Beverly Library ( 1962 W. 95th St. , Chicago ). This is co-sponsored by Beverly Library and the Chicago Writers Association of which another IWPA member Randy Richardson (Lost in the Ivy) is the current president.

button  Congratulations to Suzanne Hanney, she is the 2009 Silver Feather Award honoree. Suzanne is Editor-in-Chief of Streetwise, the No.1 street newspaper in North America according to the North American Street Newspaper Association. Suzanne accrued the most total points for her winning entries which included four First Place, three Second Place and one Honorable Mention for her columns, special articles and feature stories in the “Non-Daily Newspaper”, “General”, “Social Issues”, “Government and Politics”, “History”, and “Physical and Mental Health, Fitness, Self Help” categories.

button  Congratulations to Lana Brown, she is the recipient of the 2009 Communicator of Achievement Award from the Illinois Woman’s Press Association (IWPA). Lana will represent Illinois as its nominee for the National Communicator of Achievement Award from the National Federation of Press Women. Brown serves IWPA as its First Vice President and Program chair.

button  Congratulations to Mary Wagner, author of Running with Stilettos: Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes just picked up a Silver award in the "humor" category of the national 2009 IPPY competition (Independent Publisher Book Awards). Woo hoo! This comes on the heels of the book taking first place just this past Saturday for "non-fiction biography/autobiography" in the Illinois Woman's Press Association 2009 communications contest.

button  Congratulations to Dr. Margaret L. Young was recently awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor at Bradley University. Young has been a member of NFPW for 25 years and an IWPA member for 20 years. She has been responsible for many new student members through the years, encouraging them to enter the Communications Contest to build their portfolios. She has worked in the field for more than 30 years as a deejay, actress, reporter, designer/account rep, and advertising/public relations director. An award-winning writer, she has co-authored three books and has contributed many articles for both academic/popular journals across North America.
