NFPW honored three IWPA members on their membership anniversaries at its 1998 conference in Washington, D.C.Irene Hughes (45-year member), noted as one of the five most famous psychics, has worked with police solving murders for more than 20 years. She still writes and has over 25 awards to her credit. Hughes has a weekly program from 7 to 8 a.m. on 96.3 FM in Chicago with over a million listeners.
Jan Snyders (30-year member) began her career as a data processing manager, but she was recognized early on as someone who could explain technical information in a laymans language. Thus, Snyders began her career as a writer and journalist. In the 1970s, she wrote "Snyders on Software" for Info Systems Magazine as well as feature articles. Now retired, Jan laughed that the computer that provided so much fodder for her articles is no longer a part of her life. She donated her PC to a local youth group.
Marlene Cook (25-year member) has been twice nominated as NFPW Communicator of Achievement. Dedicated to IWPA, Cook has held every office in IWPA, including two terms as president and was the National Convention Chair for Chicago in 1985. Currently, Marlene is president of POPPS (Parlay of Past Presidents) and recording secretary for IWPA. In 1995, Cook was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Dolton Chamber of Commerce in recognition of her devotion and valued contribution to making the community seniors a better place to live for seniors.
