2002 High School Journalism Contest

Cindy Cruz and Peggy Grillot cochaired the 2002 student contest. This year a record 244 entries were received in 12 categories from 22 schools. The largest number of entries came from two schools which appear to be participating for the first time: Harrisburg High School (20 entries) and Normal Community High School (36 entries).

State winners will be announced at the May 18 awards banquet. Eleven first-place entries have been sent to NFPW.

The year's judges are: Barbara Brotman (Features); Anna Kukec (Opinion); Jim Slusher (News); Aaron Gabriel (Sports); Diana Strzalka (Columns and Editorials); Sue Rasmussen (Single-Page Layout); Ed Wantuch (Graphics and Cartooning); Connie Van Zandt (Sports and Feature Photos); and Eugenia Daniels (Reviews).
