So We Can All Be Heard

Did you kow that PenPoints is actually the third name for our IWPA newsletter?

The original name was "The Stylus," which made its debut circa 1903. The Chicago Historical Society has only one copy in its archives which is marked Vol. 111, No. 1, published in February 1905 when Ada B. Bogg was President and Mate E. Palmer was Vice President. It was edited and published by Caroline Alden Huling, an IWPA founding member.

The Stylus was succeeded by The Quill and later by PenPoints. The Chicago Historical Society has a first issue dated 1920. Among the member achievements noted in that issue is a book by Marget Handy Nobler, The Love Letter, heralded by critics as "the greatest love letter ever written."

Also in that issue is a mesage from President Maude Swalm Evans. She asked members to join in making 1920 a propserous new year by attending meetings, getting acquainted with fellow members, working for new members, and being "an IWPA promoter!" Maude's message rings true today as well. . .let's follow her example and make the Year 2002 our most prosperous ever.
