Illinois Woman's Press Association kicks off its new program year with a program that offers an opportunity to put "book author" after your name. The September 17, 2005, speaker is John Pearson, Midwest Publisher with Arcadia Publishing, who will outline what he looks for in authors for Arcadia's books, his perspective of the book market today and the various publishing avenues for authors. He will also share his marketing techniques for anyone promoting a book.

Arcadia is the leading local history publisher in the United States, with a catalog of more than 3,000 titles in print. The company is best known for its popular Images of America series, which has chronicled the history of communities across the country. Each title brings a town or region and its people and events to life with vintage black and white photos.

Pearson joined Arcadia in 2001, after having been a high school English teacher, book store manager and text book editor. He is a native of Elmhurst and has lived in Chicago for 13 years.

Whether freelance writer, a history buff or just ready to take on a book in your off-work hours, you will gain new insights into this unique publishing opportunity. Join us at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2005, at the Bali Room in the Chicago Athletic Association, 12 S. Michigan.
