Calling All Film Buffs: New Doors May Be Opening!
Strategically timed just one week before the 2005 Oscar Ceremony, our February
19th program addresses the topic of film: who are Chicago's current critics
and what are the opportunities for entry? Our guests will be Michael Miner,
author of the Reader's weekly "Hot Type" column, and Shelley
Cameron, critic for the Reel Movie
Critic website.
Shelley's major focus
for Reel Movie Critic is art, independent, and world cinema. In addition to
writing about film for Reel Movie Critic, she also works for Lyric Opera of
Chicago.
Mike created a stir last August with his provocatively titled column "White Guys Need Not Apply," in which he surfaced the news that the Chicago Tribune was "looking for a new movie critic [to replace Mark Caro], preferably a woman."
IWPA member Jan Lisa Huttner, managing editor of Films for Two, will be our moderator.
