Join members of Illinois Woman’s Press Association and the AAUW for a light breakfast and a morning of diverse educational content, featuring our Immediate Past President and Digital Marketing Chair, Becky Sarwate. As a demonstrator at the January 21, 2017 Chicago Women’s March and a prolific writer around intersectional women’s issues in media, politics and socioeconomics, Becky will share her insights about the March’s impact then, now and going forward. A full conference agenda appears below:

  • Mission-based local AAUW Grant Recipients:

    • Viola Project – Sustaining Our Impact: After School Programs in Under-Served Communities.    Using the works of William Shakespeare, The Viola Project unites and empowers girls from diverse backgrounds so they may grow up to be whoever they want to be… even Hamlet.

    • HEART Women & Girls – Removing Roadblocks: Building Victim-Centric Spaces for Muslim Survivors of Sexual Assault

Ladies of Virtue (LOV) – empowers girls, ages 9 to 18, to become confident and purpose-driven leaders through passionate mentoring, exposure to unique opportunities, career exploration, and youth-led service learning projects.

    • Gain Insights on what has happened to important AAUW issues in the past year and what could happen next:
  • Chicago Woman’s March – 9 months later – from Becky Sarwate – a multi-award winning political columnist, who’s written extensively about women’s issues.

  • Nevertheless, she persisted – featuring IL State Senator Linda Homes & IL State Representative Stephanie Kifowit
