Val Ensalaco, 2010 IWPA Communicator of Achievement

Val Ensalaco is the recipient of the 2010 Communicator of Achievement Award from the Illinois Woman’s Press Association (IWPA). She will represent Illinois as its nominee for the National Communicator of Achievement Award from the National Federation of Press Women. Ensalaco has served NFPW as an officer for five years, first as secretary and now, with a year to go of a four-year term, as the national treasurer. She has been a contributor to NFPW's Agenda. Prior to her national service, Ensalaco has served the Illinois Woman's Press Association as secretary, president, immediate past president as well as serving on many committees including several times as the chair of the Bylaws and Policies and Procedures and the nominating committee.

She currently serves as a past president advisor to the IWPA president and is developing an installation ceremony for incoming board members. A gifted writer, Val served as editor of PenPoints, worked on the design and layout for the newsletter's new look and has been a contributor.

Val is the type of writer who has made significant contributions to advance the well-being and celebrity of others. A founding member of the West Suburban Philanthropic Network, she's been a board member for many years and established ViewPoint, their official newsletter for which she has served for 16 years as managing editor, researcher, and writer of the award-winning publication.

Val Ensalaco's career spans many decades of diverse communication contributions and closely represents the complexion of IWPA/NFPW's membership, often unsung heroes who have and continue to make a difference to those whose lives she touches.

Val was presented with her award by Lana Weiss Brown, the 2009 IWPA Communicator of Achievement, during the May 15, 2010 Communication Award Luncheon.
