On May 18, 2013 The IWPA introduced and honored the 2013 Mate E. Palmer Communications Contest and High School Contest Winners.

The Spring Awards Banquet was held at the Union League Club in Chicago. At this grand event the IWPA honored the 72nd Mate E. Palmer Communication Contest and Illinois High School Communications Contest winners.

The IWPA member accumulating the highest number of points in the contest received the coveted Silver Feather Award. All state winners were recognized at the awards banquet in Chicago. All first-place winners in each category then go on for national judging in the National Federation of Press Women contest.

The Illinois Woman's Press Association, IWPA (since 1885) is an organization of communications professionals whose objective is to maintain and improve the professional standards of members in mass communications in Illinois, to promote their interest, and to provide for the sharing of ideas and information.
