IWPA Mate E. Palmer Communication Contest Winners Announced

SCHAUMBURG, IL – The Illinois Woman’s Press Association, an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), honored 33 members for 115 winning entries in the 2010 Mate E. Palmer Communication Contest at its May 15 Awards Luncheon and 125th Anniversary celebration, hosted at the Union League Club in Chicago.

Every year the IWPA presents the Communicator of Achievement award to a member who has exhibited outstanding communication skills. The IWPA proudly announced Val Ensalaco as the 2010 Communicator of Achievement winner and was presented with a beautiful shooting star trophy by Mrs. Lana Weiss Brown, the 2009 Communicator of Achievement winner. Val will represent Illinois as its nominee for the National Communicator of Achievement Award from the National Federation of Press Women.

Jan Lisa Huttner, a Chicago writer and editor was the winner of the Silver Feather Award for achieving the highest number of points among all the entrants. She received 13 awards: three 1st place awards, four 2nd, two 3 rd and four honorable mentions for her entries in the categories of Speech, Column Writing, Web Writing, Web Site Development and Special Articles. Mrs. Huttner writes for JUF News, Chicago YIVO, Films for Two, Women Arts and her own personal website.
