Selling Your Writing to Web Sites

Looking for more exposure and more importantly--revenue--for your writing? Thought of selling your articles to Web sites but weren't sure how? Leery of copyright issues for the virtual writer?

Get answers to these questions and more by attending IWPA's fall kickoff meeting with networking starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Chicago Athletic Association, 12 S. Michigan.

"The Web is all about content, but how do you get your articles published online? More importantly, how do you get paid?"

Panelist Annie Logue, freelance writer and consulting analyst, will discuss pitching online stories and the idiosyncrasies of writing for the Web.

Before pursuing a writing career, Annie spent 12 years as an investment analyst working for Kemper Financial Services, The Chicago Corporation, Volpe Brown Whelan and Company, and Andrew Davidson & Co.

She holds a B.A. in economics from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Chicago. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Among her clients and publications are Barron's, The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Equant and Webmergers.com.

Brad Spirrson is director of business development of ePrairie.com, a leading source of business and technology news and information in Chicago and the greater Midwest. EPrairie is a user-driven community distributed via the Web, the wireless Web, and free daily email newsletters that publishes articles on nanotechnology, tech law, and product reviews, to name a few. Brad will review the types of articles ePrairie considers and how it accepts submissions.

Brad cofounded ePrairie.com after serving as associate editor of Private Equity Week, a unit of Thomson Financial. Brad previously served as a producer for Fox Sports and CBS Corp. He holds an M.A. in communication/media ecology from New York University and a B.A. from Emory University.
