2006 Member and Student Communications Contest Winners
by Cecilia Green
Member Contest
Out of the 42 IWPA member 1st place winners that went on for national judging,
15 have been named national winners, with 2 categories not yet judged: Community
Relations and Business articles (Doug and Nancy, we'll keep you posted). That's
an excellent showing.
So far we have four 1st place winners, four 2nd place, five 3rd place and two
honorable mentions. See the list of IWPA's
national winners. If your 1st place state entry is not on the list, it means
it did not place in its category. (remember, no whining in IWPA).
Congratulations to all in this highly competitive competition. If you want to
see all the national winners by category from around the country, go to http://www.nfpw.org/docs/2006_contest_winners.xls
If you are a national winner please consider attending the NFPW conference in
Denver Sept. 7-9. There is no bigger thrill than having the national president
hand you your award in front of a group of very accomplished professionals from
all over the country, with the Illinois group cheering you on. You'll fee like
a celebrity, blinded by the flash bulbs from the IWPA paparazzi. Full details
of the conference are at http://www.nfpw.org/conference.htm.
A small number of conference grants for first-time conference goers are available;
I found this form hidden in the Members
only section. No further details are available on the website, so contact Donna
Penticuff, Education Fund Director, dpenticuff@lifestreaminc.org; 765/759-1121
(O) or the NFPW headquarters, presswomen@aol.com. 800-780-2715
Student contest
We also have 5 student winners so far, with 2 of the 12 categories still being
judged. See list. IWPA offers a small
travel grant to those students who wish to attend the national conference, so
encourage any of the students you know to attend.
